I wasn’t Labour Party candidate in Anambra poll, Kingsley Moghalu clarifies

    Published on

Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Deputy Governor, Kingsley Moghalu, has denied claims that he was the Labour Party (LP) candidate in the November 8, 2025, Anambra governorship election.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Moghalu said the reports, which also used his photograph, were false and a case of mistaken identity with Chief George Moghalu, who was the actual LP candidate.

“I am distressed to have seen several reports naming me as the Labour Party candidate. These reports are false, lazy, and unfortunate,” he wrote.

“For clarity, I’m not a member of any political party in Nigeria and was not a candidate in the Anambra election. I quit partisan politics in 2022 after running for president under YPP in 2019.”

He urged media outlets that published the error to issue corrections.

The true LP candidate, George Moghalu, was defeated by incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), who won convincingly across the state.
