‘I messed up’ – 2Baba publicly apologises after controversial statement

Popular Nigerian music icon, Innocent Idibia, famously known as 2Baba, has publicly apologised to his wife, Natasha Idibia, his children, and fans following widespread backlash over a controversial statement about male sexuality.

The award-winning singer triggered a storm of criticism after comments he made during a recent podcast went viral. In the interview, 2Baba suggested that while a man can deeply love one woman, it is against his biological nature to remain sexually faithful to just one partner.

“A man is not built to sexually be with one woman. A man can love one woman to death, but it’s impossible for a man to sexually be with only one woman. It’s the biology of man,” he had remarked.

The statement ignited heated debate across social media platforms, with many condemning it as an attempt to normalise infidelity, while others controversially labelled it a “harsh truth.”

Responding to the uproar, 2Baba released a video statement on Tuesday night, describing his earlier comment as “unlegendary” and sincerely apologising to those hurt by his words.

“I know I messed up with what I said and I know I might get cancelled for it. I sincerely apologise to my fans, my family, and most importantly, my wife, the love of my life, Natasha, and my kids. I’m terribly sorry — that’s not who I am,” he stated.

The veteran singer’s apology has since sparked mixed reactions online, with some commending him for taking responsibility, while others maintained that his earlier remarks reflected harmful stereotypes.
