Help seems to be on the way of the distraught Sonia Ekweremadu, daughter of the embattled former Deputy Senate president Ike Ekweremadu as a 24-year-old lady named Annastasia Olamma has offered to donate her kidney to the sick 25-year-old girl

She is currently in dire need of kidney transplant in a united kingdom hospital

On Monday Sonia went on social media to appeal to the public to save her from the life-threatening battle with kidney disease.

In a statement posted on her Instagram handle @soniaek Sonia narrated her ordeal since 2019 when she was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease, FSGS Nephrotic Syndrome and what her family has been passing through.

She wrote: “My family has battled to save my life and has taken me to various hospitals, but the illness persisted and kept degenerating. I am alive today by the special grace of God. I am presently in London, UK, receiving five hours of dialysis 3-4 times a week. This is at the expense of my family as I am not qualified for NHS due to my immigration status.

“The last three years have been extremely challenging. The charges being faced by my parents in London presently are directly connected to my illness and have complicated matter for me and my family. I do not intend to delve into details of this unfortunate development as the matter is still in Court. I am however optimistic that the truth will prevail and it will end in praise to God.

“In the circumstance above, I am appealing to anybody whom it may please to assist me willingly with a kidney donation in the name of God.

“This appeal would have been utterly unnecessary as every member of my family is eager to donate their kidney to me, knowing that I would do the same for any of them.

Regrettably, comprehensive medical examination showed that my case of nephrotic syndrome is a genetic illness and the doctors advised against donation from any of my family members, as it would likely reoccur. In the time that my father has been incarcerated, he has been diagnosed with acute kidney damage.

“Anybody that is moved by this appeal and wishes to donate his or her kidney to me may send an email to [email protected] and include his or her name, phone number, email address and place of residence.

“Please, note that under the laws of England and Wales, organ donation must be purely driven by compassion and therefore no reward is involved. Finally, I have decided to commit and dedicate myself to helping people with the challenges of kidney disease, upon my full recovery.”

Responding on her Facebook page, Olamma said her kidney was healthy, adding that she had sent a message conveying her resolve to donate it to Sonia.

“I want to donate one of my Kidney to Sonia Ekweremadu to save her life. I have made up my mind to do this to prove women can help women,” she wrote on Facebook.

“If any of her relatives mum, dad, and siblings, cannot give out their kidneys to save their Bloodline then I will donate my own to save Sonia And I demand nothing in return. I pray it matches with her own.

“I’m 24 years old, I don’t take alcohol and I believe my kidney is very healthy to donate.

“I have sent a message to her email @[email protected] and anticipate her reply.”

Ekweremadu and his accountant wife, Beatrice, 55, were arrested by the Metropolitan Police on June 21, at Heathrow Airport, after arriving on a flight from Turkey. They are standing trial at the Central Criminal Court, London, for alleged organ harvesting.

While senator Ike was charged with conspiracy to arrange or facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting, Beatrice was charged with arranging or facilitating the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, between August 1 last year and May 5, under the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
