Super Falcons defender, Michele Alozie, has deactivated her Instagram account, following a wave of criticism from Nigerian fans after the team failed to qualify for the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil for the first time in the country’s history.
Justine Madugu’s side endured a disappointing TotalEnergies CAF 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign, crashing out in the quarter-final, following a one-goal defeat to Cameroon, before losing their chance of an automatic World Cup slot.
With only a play-off match left to secure qualification, the Super Falcons fell 2-1 to South Africa, ending their hopes of reaching the tournament.
The poor run of results has drawn heavy criticism from fans towards the team and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), with Alozie, a regular fixture in the squad, among those singled out.
The defender has previously come under scrutiny over her frequent use of social media, including trending content shared with her teammates, but the latest backlash stemmed from the team’s historic failure to qualify.
Her Instagram page has remained inactive since the criticism intensified. Calls have since grown for head coach, Madugu, to be sacked, and for the NFF to be overhauled, following the team’s underwhelming campaign.
This marks the first time in Nigeria’s football history that the Super Falcons, Super Eagles, and Flying Eagles have all failed to qualify for their respective World Cups.
