Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of assaulting Yoruba traditional institutions, emphasizing that the Yoruba are known for their commitment to justice and fairness through upholding their cultural traditions.
His remarks on Thursday followed an announcement on the Lagospedia X handle, which revealed that traditionalists in Lagos have scheduled the Oro ritual from August 1 to 15. The Lagos State government has been accused of orchestrating this event to overshadow the planned “EndbadgovernanceinNigeria” protest set for August 1.
Rhodes-Vivour criticized the use of the Oro ritual, a sacred practice in Yoruba culture, as a tool to threaten protesters, calling it an assault on their traditional institutions. He argued that trivializing such a revered ritual for political gain undermines Yoruba culture and corrupts their esteemed traditions.
He affirmed support for peaceful protests and urged patience and restraint among the youth, while also emphasizing the importance of respecting their right to peaceful assembly. Rhodes-Vivour called on traditional leaders to denounce the misuse of their traditions and protect their cultural heritage.
