FRSC, Army clear Abuja-Kaduna Expressway gridlock amid Eid Festivities

The Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC Kaduna and FCT Sector Commands, in close collaboration with the Nigerian Army and road construction officials, have successfully cleared a major traffic obstruction along the Abuja–Kaduna Expressway, restoring free vehicular movement at the Azara Bridge, Jere corridor within record time.
The incident occurred against the backdrop of heightened road traffic triggered by the ongoing Muslim festival, as millions of Nigerians travelled across the country to mark the celebration with family and loved ones, placing enormous pressure on one of the nation’s busiest transport corridors.
The gridlock was set off by the breakdown of an articulated vehicle conveying a crane at a narrow diversion point created by ongoing road construction activities along the route. The resulting obstruction rapidly snowballed into a kilometres-long standstill, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded and raising fears of complete traffic paralysis on the strategic highway.
In a swift show of leadership, the FRSC Corps Marshal personally moved to the scene, taking direct charge of a multi-agency emergency response. Issuing real-time directives and coordinating seamlessly among all responding agencies, his hands-on presence was credited with accelerating the evacuation of the offending vehicle and boosting operational efficiency on the ground.
Beyond clearing the immediate obstruction, the intervention is also said to have averted potential secondary crashes, security threats, and significant economic losses that typically accompany prolonged congestion on the expressway.
Commuters and motorists who witnessed the operation were effusive in their praise. Many described the Corps Marshal as a “field commander,” whose tenacity and expertise are redefining emergency traffic management in Nigeria.
The FRSC has since reassured the travelling public, particularly those still on the roads for the festival period, of its sustained commitment to prompt intervention and collaborative emergency response, pledging to keep Nigeria’s highways safer and more efficient for all road users.
