    BY EMMANUEL OLUKOTUN

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has disowned a fake Facebook account impersonating its Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, and allegedly being used to spread misinformation and offer fraudulent contracts and rewards.

In a statement issued over the weekend, Ministry spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa clarified that neither the Ministry nor Ambassador Ahmed is connected to the account.

“The Ministry’s attention was drawn to the fraudulent activities of some unscrupulous individuals operating a Facebook account in the name of Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed,” the statement read.

Ebienfa emphasized that the Ministry has no affiliation with the account and warned the public to steer clear of it, as it does not represent any official communication channel.

“This fraudulent account is being used to disseminate false information, award fictitious contracts, solicit assistance, and lure unsuspecting members of the public with enticing offers,” he said.

He further stated that Ambassador Ahmed does not maintain any social media presence, stressing that all such schemes are fake and malicious.

“The general public is advised to avoid engaging with any individuals or platforms promoting these scams,” the statement continued.

Ebienfa added that the Ministry is collaborating with security agencies and Meta, the parent company of Facebook, to investigate the matter and take down the fraudulent account. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to transparency and the protection of the public against cyber fraud.
