    ‎Flood: FCTA warns residents against flood

    ‎The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), through the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), has warned residents living close to water channels to consider relocating following a flooding incident that submerged parts of a residential building in Mabushi District, Abuja.

    ‎The acting Director-General of FEMD, Abdulrahman Mohammed, made the appeal after the incident which occurred in the early hours of Friday at a one-storey building located at 22 Anthony Ikem Street, behind Blue Cabana Hotel in Mabushi District, FCT.

    ‎In a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs, Nkechi Isa, FEMD said the overnight downpour led to the flooding of the ground floor of the building.

    ‎The agency disclosed that it “received a distress call at about 3am” and immediately deployed its Search and Rescue Team to the scene.

    ‎According to the statement, the Team had to manually bail water from the apartments when the generator attached to the pumping machine failed to start.

    ‎The statement reads in parts, No life was lost in the incident.

    ‎Household items food stuff and documents were destroyed by the flood.

    ‎Meanwhile, the Ag Director General of FEMD, Engr Abdulrahman Mohammed has appealed to residents residing close to the water channel to relocate as the onset of the rainy season draws near.

    ‎Mohammed also called for the clearing of blocked drains and the removal of structures built on the water channel”.
