Remains of late former president Muhammadu Buhari, have been placed in an ambulance at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina to begin its final journey home to Daura.
Buhari’s remains, which arrived earlier from the United Kingdom, where he died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, were received by a high-level delegation, including President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and Katsina State Governor Dikko Umar Radda.
Also on ground were members of the Federal Executive Council, military top brass, and dignitaries from across the country. They all paid their last respects before Buhari’s body was moved into the waiting ambulance under tight security.
Already, the convoy has departed for the late ex-president’s hometown, Daura, where he will be buried later today in accordance with Islamic rites.
Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, died at the age of 82 following a brief illness.
Crowds have already begun to gather in Daura in anticipation of his burial, as tributes continue to pour in from within and beyond Nigeria.
