The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has discharged Omoyele Sowore and Olawale Bakare of the alleged treasonable felony charge brought against them by the former President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime.
Justice Emeka Nwite, in a ruling, struck out the matter after counsel for the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi, withdrew the charge.
The court ordered the State Security Service (SSS) to immediately return three phones and N10,000 seized from Mr Sowore during his arrest. Additionally, Mr Sowore’s international passport is to be released.
Mr Nwite also directed the SSS to return a phone belonging to Mr Bakare, along with N1,500 confiscated from him during his arrest.
The orders were issued following an application by the lawyers representing Messrs Sowore and Bakare, led by Femi Falana (SAN).
Messrs Sowore and Bakare had been arraigned before Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu in 2019 before the matter was reassigned to Justice Nwite.
