In FCT’s Lugbe axis, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, or NAFDAC, conducted a raid on an illicit alcoholic beverage factory.
The agency found expired salt with tampered expiration dates and confiscated alcoholic beverages that had been tampered with during the operation.
NAFDAC also stepped up efforts to stop the sale of counterfeit goods, rebranded products, and subpar products during the enforcement exercise.
The FCT’s Lugbe region has developed into a center for the production and distribution of inferior alcoholic beverages, according to Mr. Shaba Mohammed, Director of Investigation and Enforcement for the agency’s Federal Task Force.
Mohammed pointed out that local imitation brands now bear phony labels of well-known alcoholic brands.
He claimed that the crew discovered locations where bogus alcohol was being repackaged in used bottles with fictitious labels and tampered expiration dates.
This is just one of many recent operations in the FCT; the false goods were made in a domestic flat, frequently on the weekends, using phony packing materials.
“The facility has been sealed by NAFDAC, and those in charge have been called for additional inquiry.
He said, “Our Post-Marketing Surveillance Directorate will sweep the market to remove any remaining items, and we will remove the counterfeit products from the production site.”
Similar results were also reported by Mr. Tamanuwa Andrew, the Deputy Director of Investigation and Enforcement for NAFDAC in Kaduna, in the communities of Wuse Market and Mararaba, which are adjacent to Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory.
NAFDAC will step up its surveillance to safeguard public health, he said, pointing to a rise in unregistered pharmaceutical and herbal goods.
He said that after more research is done, sanctions for individuals who produce counterfeit goods will be decided.
