A heartbreaking tragedy has struck the Jeddo community in Delta State, as a father of nine children, identified simply as Mr. Charles, reportedly committed suicide in the early hours of Monday.

According to reports, Mr. Charles ingested an insecticide at his residence in the Okpe Local Government Area. After consuming the poison, he made his way to his in-laws’ home in the nearby Ugbokodo community, where he passed away.

Sources familiar with the incident disclosed that the deceased, who was a member of the Jeddo Community Vigilante, had been involved in a heated argument with his wife. It is believed that he had pleaded with her not to leave him, but his pleas were unsuccessful.

Although Mr. Charles did not leave behind a suicide note, empty insecticide bottles were found in his pockets, indicating his method of suicide. The details of what led to the domestic dispute remain unclear.

As of the time of filing this report, the Delta State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, had not responded to requests for comments on the matter.

This tragic event adds to the growing concern over rising cases of suicide linked to domestic challenges in the region.
