In a tragic incident, Mr. Augustine Izekor, an employee of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), lost his life in a fatal electrocution accident while on duty. The incident occurred on October 26, 2023, during the disconnection of power supply in Evbodia Community, located in Oredo, Edo State.
Upon receiving the report, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) swiftly responded by initiating an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. An Accident Investigation Team (AIT) has been assembled to thoroughly examine both the immediate and underlying factors that led to the unfortunate incident.
In compliance with regulatory requirements, BEDC promptly notified NERC about the accident. The Commission’s leadership has reached out to the wife of the deceased, extending their condolences and assuring her that compensation measures will be taken by the electricity distribution company.
NERC remains steadfast in its commitment to prioritize public safety within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry. The Commission adheres to a zero-tolerance policy for accidents and assures the public that the matter will be handled in accordance with established safety codes and regulations.
