In a ceremony rich with symbolism and professional pride, former Executive Governor of Ogun State and veteran journalist, Chief Olusegun Osoba, Saturday decorated Dr. Obinna Nwachukwu, fnipr, as a full member of the elite Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE). The prestigious induction took place at the Government House Banquet Hall in Enugu on Saturday, June 28, 2025.

The event, which brought together top media professionals and political dignitaries, was part of the official induction of new members into the NGE—Nigeria’s foremost body of editorial leaders. Chief Osoba, a founding member of the Guild and one of its most respected figures, personally conducted the symbolic decoration of Dr. Nwachukwu, marking a significant moment in the latter’s media career.

Dr. Nwachukwu, a distinguished communication strategist and Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (fnipr), was recognized for his contributions to media development and excellence in editorial leadership.

Enugu State Governor, His Excellency Barr. Peter Mbah, was in attendance and delivered a goodwill message, commending the role of the media in nation-building and democratic consolidation. He praised the NGE for upholding the values of journalistic integrity and encouraged the newly inducted members to continue championing accountability and truth.

Also present at the event were notable figures including Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, a veteran journalist and statesman, who spoke about the evolution of the Nigerian media and the need for editors to remain committed to professionalism in the digital age.

Speaking shortly after his decoration, Dr. Nwachukwu expressed deep gratitude to the Guild and to Chief Osoba for the honor. “This is a humbling moment for me. I am inspired to continue upholding the ethics and values that define responsible journalism,” he said.

The Nigerian Guild of Editors, established in 1961, is the professional body of editors in Nigeria. It plays a crucial role in shaping national discourse and defending press freedom in the country.

Saturday’s ceremony not only celebrated individual achievements but also reaffirmed the enduring relevance of the editorial profession in shaping Nigeria’s democratic journey.
