Members of the former All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) bloc in the All Progressives Congress (APC) have pledged total support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, while formally demanding that the party’s presidential ticket be zoned to the ANPP bloc in 2031.
This was contained in a communique issued at the end of their meeting held on Monday in Abuja.
The meeting reviewed the outcome of a similar gathering held on November 3, 2025, where the bloc made three key requests to the President.
According to the communique signed by the National Coordinator, Prof . Vitalis Orikęze Ajumbe, the group had asked for inclusivity in government appointments, retention of the Vice Presidential slot for the ANPP bloc, and rotation of power to ANPP after the Tinubu administration.
“To offer our services to this government and Nigerians, the APC government led by our President should consider our members by appointing us as Board chairmen, Ambassadors, Ministers, heads of government agencies and departments just as it is the case with other parties that merged to form APC,” the group stated.
They also argued that “since the formation of APC, CPC bloc has ruled for 8 years under the late President Buhari. The ACN bloc is currently occupying the Presidency. Fairness and equity demand that our President should hand over power to the ANPP bloc when his tenure expires in 2031.”
The former ANPP members, however, expressed satisfaction with steps taken so far by the President, describing him as “a listening father of the Nation.”
They specifically thanked President Tinubu for retaining their leader, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, as the Vice Presidential candidate for 2027, and for appointing Sen. Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari, CON as Director-General of the 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, and Gov. Mai Mala Buni, CON of Yobe State as Deputy Director 1 North.
“While looking forward to the appointment of our members into key positions in government and our request to Mr President to support a Presidential candidate from ANPP bloc come 2031 to succeed him, we do promise him our maximum support and to our Party for victory during the 2027 elections_,” the communique added.
The ANPP was one of the three legacy parties that merged in 2013 to form the APC, alongside the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).
The bloc concluded by urging all members nationwide to remain patient and mobilise for the party’s victory in 2027.
