‎Barau FC head coach, Eugene Agagbe, has said that the Kano State club have set their sights on achieving big things in the 2026/27 EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

‎Barau FC, who are competing in the Nigerian top flight for the second successive season, made an impressive start to the new campaign, with a commanding 3-1 victory over Nasarawa United at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, on Sunday, August 30.

‎The Maliya Boys will look to build on that encouraging result when they face Kun Khalifat FC at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, Imo State on Sunday (yesterday).

‎Both clubs gained promotion to the NPFL, following impressive performances at the 2024/25 Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 playoffs held at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, Delta State.

‎Agagbe, a former Lobi Stars head coach, believes the experience gained from Barau FC’s debut season in the top flight has put the club in a stronger position to compete for bigger honours this term.

‎“Last season, we tested the waters in the NPFL. It wasn’t a bad experience because finishing eighth, with 52 points, is not a poor result for a team making its debut in the top flight.

‎“Now, with the experience we gathered last season, I don’t think dreaming big should be considered over-ambitious.

‎“It is not going to be a stroll in the park. All the teams are well prepared and we are also ready.

‎“We will try to give our ultimate best in every single game, believing that with God on our side, our efforts will be crowned with success,” Agagbe said.
