The Ekiti State Government has expressed strong condemnation over the recent surge in kidnappings and has intensified efforts to enhance security across the state. During a security committee meeting on Wednesday, Brig. Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana (retd), the Special Adviser to Governor Biodun Oyebanji on Security Matters, urged local government chairmen to take responsibility for safeguarding lives and property in their areas.

Ogundana, who also chairs the State Security and Intelligence Committee, emphasized the importance of local government collaboration with the state to curb insecurity. The government is set to review its security framework to address the challenges posed by recent kidnapping incidents.

This comes in response to a resurgence of kidnappings, including an attack on September 1st along the Emure-Eporo Road, where one man was killed and three women were abducted. Ogundana labeled the incident as unacceptable, noting that the state had previously enjoyed relative peace.

The state government is expected to meet with security agencies and stakeholders to refine its strategies and better tackle the security issues. Governor Oyebanji has prioritized addressing these rising threats to ensure the safety of Ekiti residents.
