DSS Raises Alarm Over Planned Terror Attacks on Worship and Recreational Centers During Eid Kabir Festival

The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a public alert regarding planned terrorist attacks, specifically targeting worship and recreational centers leading up to and during the Eid Kabir festival.

The DSS highlighted the recovery of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from terrorists during joint operations with the Nigerian Army and Police, providing evidence of the imminent threat.

In a statement released on Thursday, the DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, urged the operators of malls and other establishments to maintain a high level of vigilance in order to safeguard public safety.

This warning serves as a crucial reminder for individuals and organizations to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activities, and adhere to security protocols during the Eid Kabir festival and beyond.DSS Alerts Public to Planned Terror Attacks on Worship and Recreational Centers During Eid Kabir Festival

In a statement, the Department of State Services (DSS) has emphasized the need for vigilance ahead of the Eid celebrations, as there have been reports indicating plans to target worship and recreational centers before and during the festivities. The recovery of primed Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from suspected terrorists further validates these concerns.

The DSS has advised operators and patrons of public places such as markets and malls to remain watchful and promptly report any suspicious movements or individuals to the relevant security agencies. The agency is committed to partnering with sister agencies to conduct proactive drills and thwart criminal activities.

During joint operations conducted between June 19 and 22 in Nasarawa and Kogi States, a notorious gang leader identified as Kabir Bala, also known as Okwo, was neutralized during a gun duel in Kogi. The operations involved a collaborative effort by the DSS, Nigerian Army, and Police.

Abubakar Muhammad, also known as Abu Direba, a suspected gunrunner, was apprehended during the operation in Nasarawa. The team seized a significant amount of ammunition, including 486 rounds of 7.62 x39mm caliber, as well as 22 primed IEDs. In addition, a Volkswagen Golf vehicle with registration number RBC202XA and the sum of N31,500 were also confiscated.

In the separate operation in Kogi State, Kabir Bala (Okwo), a notorious gang leader and former jailbreaker, was targeted in Ejule, Ofu LGA. During the encounter, Okwo was neutralized while his accomplices fled. The team recovered one AK47 rifle with three fully loaded magazines, six locally fabricated weapons, two phones, and charms at the scene.

The DSS continues to work diligently alongside other security agencies to ensure the safety and security of the public, particularly during the Eid Kabir festival. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could pose a threat to national security.
