The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has felicitated the University of Ilorin Muslim Community and the entire Muslim Ummah on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival being marked worldwide on Friday, June 6, 2025.

In a statement by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor said that it was “a thing of joy that we are witnessing the celebration, which is in symbolic remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s act of piety and steadfastness in the worship of Almighty Allah.

Prof. Egbewole, who described the occasion as one of the most important annual events of the Muslim calendar, urged members of the University’s Muslim community to celebrate in moderation.

He reminded the Muslims of the genesis of the festival, which, he said, is rooted in obedience, faithfulness and perseverance demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim and his son, Ismail.

Prof. Egbewole urged the Muslim faithful to imbibe those fascinating virtues demonstrated by Prophets Ibrahim and Ismail for our nation to witness the much-envisaged rebirth.

The Vice Chancellor, who is also the Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), appealed to well-to-do Muslims to use the occasion to extend hands of fellowship to their less-privileged neighbours in their various communities in particular and the larger society for peace and love to reign.

The Professor of Jurisprudence and International Law commended the entire members of the University community for their contributions to the prevailing peace and harmony in the University and for working tirelessly towards ensuring the realisation of making the University the first in Nigeria, one of the best ten in Africa and among the leading 500 in the world. He said, “With the continuous cooperation of the staff, the University would not only achieve the dream but also surpass it.”

Prof. Egbewole congratulated the Chairman of the UNILORIN Muslin Community, Prof. Mudashiru Olalere Yusuf, the Chief Imam of UNILORIN Central Mosque, Prof. Nasir Abdussalam, and the entire members of the Muslim Community on the occasion as he wished all a very peaceful and remarkable celebration.
