    Edo Queens edge Heartland Queens in Gov Diri pre-season football tourney

    The Governor Douye Diri Female Pre-Season Football Tournament entered Matchday Two on Monday, producing wins for Rivers Angels, Nasarawa Amazons, Abia Angels, and Edo Queens.

    The competition, featuring ten top women’s football clubs, has so far delivered high-quality action and intensity over the past two days.

    Former NWFL champions, Rivers Angels, defeated Delta Queens 1–0 in the day’s opener to top Group A. Abasiofon Uwah’s 56th-minute strike sealed the victory for the Pride of Rivers.

    In another encounter, Nasarawa Amazons beat a spirited Imo Strikers side courtesy of Odah’s goal in the 66th minute. Group B saw Abia Angels pip FC Robo 1–0 after Blessing Saleh converted an 87th-minute penalty.

    Edo Queens capped the day with a 2–0 victory over Heartland Queens. Zainab Olapade opened the scoring three minutes into the game, while Chioma Moses doubled the lead in the 18th minute, leaving Heartland without a point after two matches. Edo Queens now have four points, following a draw with Abia Angels in their opening fixture.

    Matchday Three continues Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the Samson Siasia Stadium. Nasarawa Amazons will face Delta Queens at 8:00 a.m., while hosts Bayelsa Queens take on Rivers Angels at noon in Group A. Heartland Queens will play FC Robo at 2:00 p.m., and Bayelsa Princesses meet Abia Angels at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday has been designated a rest day.
