In a recent development, the Delta State Police Command has reported the apprehension of nine Delta youths on allegations of assaulting police officers and causing damage to a police vehicle.

Bright Edafe, the state Public Relations Officer, made this announcement via his official communication channels, highlighting that one of the officers sustained a head injury during the altercation.

Providing details of the incident, Edafe explained that officers from the Ughelli Area Command intercepted an unregistered Benz GLK without a license plate in the Ekuigbo community on Tuesday. Upon questioning four individuals who failed to provide valid ownership documents for the vehicle, a confrontation ensued.

“The situation escalated when some of the youths attacked the police officers, resulting in the destruction of their vehicle and injury to one of the officers,” stated the PPRO.

This incident occurred against the backdrop of an ongoing protest in the Ughelli community area, reportedly sparked by grievances related to police misconduct and brutality.
