    CSOs Lauds NERC For Launching The Power Outage Reporting App

    The launch of the Power Outage Reporting App was a conglomeration of stakeholders in the power sector. Civil Society Organizations in attendance Civil Society Groups for Good Governance (CSGGG) Consumer Protection Network (CPN) and Center For Environmental Sustainability And Development Awareness (CESDA) lauded the initiative of the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission NERC for the feat. In corroborating their views the CSOs said with the launch of the App, consumers can now get value for services provided by the electricity distribution companies through feedback with the launch of the Power Outage App.

    Building a responsive consumer relations and adding value in the electricity sector is not rocket science. The Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission NERC have taken the bull by the horn through building consumer’s confidence. The Power Outage Reporting System PORS is a smart initiative to collate consumers complaints and get a feedback on quality time and response through a mobile application.

    During the launch of the Power Outage Reporting App, Commissioner Consumer Affairs of NERC, Hajia Aisha Mahmud said “the App is to ensure that consumers rights are protected. She reiterated that the Power Outage Reporting App is a multidimensional approach in getting consumers complaints through the Web and mobile App. She said as regulators they have decided to use Abuja Electricity Distribution Company AEDC as the pilot takeoff for the mobile Application.

    In his opening remarks at the launch, the Chairman and CEO of Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission NERC, Sanusi Garba, examined the role of NERC in quality control. He said the application is to ensure that Distribution Companies DisCos comply with quality supply of electricity. He also reiterated that it is a smart metering which will help customers to lodge complaints by increasing the level of confidence on services provided.

    Responding, the MD of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company AEDC Christopher Ezeafulukwe said the App is user friendly, and that consumers feedback is a raw material to help deliver on their mandate. It is a win-win for the regulator, consumers and Distribution Companies. The bar have been raised which comes with added responsibilities on DisCos”. Ultimately value is created and added as AEDC is used as the pilot launch.

    Test running the App, the software developer Hyper Drive Technology, analyzed the steps in lodging a complaint when you first download the App on Google Playstore. It’s a user friendly App to all electricity customers who submit the Power Outage Report.
