‎The Jos Magistrate’s Court has sentenced an 18-year-old electrician, Ibrahim Sani, to 14 months in prison for trespass and theft.

‎The convict pleaded guilty to the charge of trespass and theft brought against him by the police.

‎The magistrate, Hannatu Ashom, sentenced the convict to three months in prison with an option of a N5,000 fine for trespass, or one year in prison for theft.

‎Ms Ashom also ordered him to pay N45,000 in compensation or spend two months in prison in default.

‎She said the sentence would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such criminal acts.

‎While reviewing the facts, the prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the complainant, Afolomah Marcelina, reported the case on January 31 at the ‘C’ Division Police station.

‎Gokwat said the convict trespassed into the complainant’s house and stole a phone, a power bank, and withdrew N15,000 from the complainant’s account using his phone.

‎He said the offences contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.
