Kemi Badenoch, the newly elected head of the United Kingdom Conservative Party, made comments about Nigeria on Monday, which the Presidency called a “cock and bull story.”
Temitope Ajayi, President Bola Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, maintained that Badenoch had misrepresented her Nigerian upbringing.
In 2022, Badenoch accused Nigerian politicians of utilizing public cash for their own affairs
She asserted that because Nigeria was rife with corruption, her childhood there was dominated by anxiety and insecurity.
According to reports, Badenoch was contacted by the Nigerian government through the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) after she was elected as the head of the UK Conservative Party in November 2024, but she turned them down.
In response, Ajayi said on X: “You are opposition leader and potential UK prime minister Kemi Badenoch. You were questioned by a journalist about the condition of the police in the nation you intend to lead.
“You used an uninteresting cock and bull narrative about how policemen stole your brother’s shoe in Nigeria to answer the issue rather than explaining how you would make the police more effective and accountable in defending the citizens of the UK.
“For someone who has obviously lied about everything she said about her upbringing in Nigeria just for the feel-good effect of keeping her new job, how can we be sure her brother’s so-called police experience in Nigeria was not another made-up story?
