Cement Prices Continue to Rise in Nigeria: Dangote, BUA, and Other Brands

    Published on

The price of cement in Nigeria remains high, with a 50kg bag now averaging ₦8,800 nationwide, and reaching up to ₦10,000 in certain states. This surge has persisted over the past six to eight months, sparking concerns and prompting the House of Representatives to summon major manufacturers such as Dangote and BUA earlier this year. The manufacturers were questioned over allegations of exploiting exchange rate volatility and manipulating the economy to maintain the high prices.

Despite these concerns, efforts by lawmakers to reduce cement prices have not yielded any significant changes, leaving many Nigerians, especially individual homebuilders, struggling to afford the material for construction projects.

**Current Cement Prices** (as of this week):
    – **Dangote Cement**: ₦8,650 per 50kg bag (location-dependent)
    – **BUA Cement**: ₦7,000 per 50kg bag
    – **POP White Cement**: ₦10,300 per 50kg bag
    – **Lafarge Waterproof Cement**: ₦10,500 per 50kg bag
    – **Water Shield High-Quality Waterproof Cement**: ₦12,000 per 50kg bag

The persistent price hike continues to heavily impact the construction industry and the affordability of homebuilding materials for average Nigerians.
