Biden: Nigeria should have a permanent seat on UN Security Council

    Published on

Nigeria should have a permanent seat at the UN security seat, according to US President Joe Biden.

He stated that his nation was dedicated to securing two permanent seats for Africa in the UN Security Council.

According to Yusuf Tuggar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Biden called President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday night to discuss his position on Nigeria’s application for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.

According to Tuggar, the two leaders’ 30-minute phone conversation took place on the same day that Tigran Gambaryan, Binance’s head of finance crime compliance, was freed on October 23.

The US president stated that he did not understand why Nigeria could not have a permanent place on the UN Security Council, according to the minister.

Tuggar continued, “The two leaders also talked about the issue of permanent seats, and President Biden and the UN Security Council reaffirmed that the United States is committed to seeing Africa have two permanent seats.”

Africa has long demanded equal representation in the UN Security Council, as you may remember.

Five new members from various geographic regions are chosen annually by the UN General Assembly to serve two-year terms on the council.

The 15-member council has three rotating members for Africa.
