    ‎

‎The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has condemned in strong terms the continuous destruction and desecration of its campaign materials across the state.

    ‎

‎The party, in a statement issued on Tuesday in Makurdi by the State Publicity Secretary, Bright Antyo, described the development as unacceptable and condemnable.

    ‎

‎The PDP particularly frowned at the latest destruction of its billboard in Ajio, Ishangev Ya, Kwande West State Constituency, describing the act as deeply troubling.

    ‎

‎”The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Benue State Chapter, has observed with grave concern the continued destruction, removal and vandalisation of its campaign materials, including banners, billboards and other party properties across the state,” the statement said.

    ‎

‎According to the party, such actions constitute a dangerous affront to democratic values and a deliberate attempt to undermine the rights of political parties to freely canvass for votes.

    ‎

‎The PDP stressed that democracy thrives on exchange of ideas, programmes and capacity, and not on intimidation, provocation and destruction of opponents’ materials.

    ‎

‎While stating that it is a peaceful and law-abiding party, the PDP warned that its tolerance and commitment to peaceful engagement should not be mistaken for weakness.

    ‎

‎The party, therefore, called on security agencies in the state to thoroughly investigate the incidents and bring those responsible to justice, regardless of their political affiliation.

    ‎

‎It also called on the state government and political leaders to caution their supporters against acts capable of heightening political tension.

    ‎

‎The statement further assured members of the public that the PDP will continue to pursue its political objectives peacefully and democratically, but will not remain silent in the face of sustained intimidation.

    ‎

‎The party urged its supporters, especially in Kwande and other parts of the state, to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding, adding that no amount of vandalism can silence the voice of the electorate.

    ‎

‎It urged all political actors to respect the rights of other parties and allow the people to freely choose their leaders at the ballot box.
