A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ladan Salihu, has countered the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over the denial of the opposition party’s use of Eagles Square in Abuja for its national convention.
Recall that Wike had dismissed claims that any political party was denied the use of Eagle Square, insisting that no formal application was submitted.
However, Salihu, during an interview on Arise Television, said when it comes to politics, Nigerians should believe Wike at their own risk.
He said, “When it comes to politics, believe Nyesom Wike at your own risk. If he tells you there is sunshine, make sure you go out there and look up, and when you see the sun coming out, then you believe him.
“Wike said the ADC did not give a formal request to use Eagles Square, but we made contact with all those remotely associated with security at the venues that we hunted for, including Eagles Square and major hotels in the FCT.
“The national symbol of our own political cohesion and democracy is the Eagles Square, conceived by Ibrahim Babangida, finished by Abdulsalami Abubakar, used for the inauguration of Olusegun Obasanjo as our first president in this unbroken democracy and has been consistently used by political parties, irrespective of whoever is in power.
“But today, this is the shame of a nation that the main opposition political party is clearly denied the privilege and the right to undertake our convention there.”
