‎Bayelsa United Football Club of Yenagoa resumed preparations for the 2026/2027 Nigeria National League (NNL) season on Monday, aiming for promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

‎The team’s first training session took place at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa, under the supervision of the technical crew led by assistant coach Ngozi Elechi and Anderson West.

‎The players underwent light fitness drills and tactical exercises as the coaches assessed their fitness levels ahead of a more intensive pre-season programme.

‎The squad is expected to be strengthened with additional players before participating in the Bayelsa United/Prosperity Cup pre-season tournament in Yenagoa.

‎Addressing the players, a member of the club’s management board, Godson Ekarde, urged them to approach the new campaign with discipline, commitment and a winning mentality as they seek promotion to the NPFL.

‎Ekarde described the forthcoming season as a crucial one, in line with Governor Douye Diri’s directive that the club should return to the NPFL.

‎“The management will provide the necessary support for the team to compete strongly in the NNL and secure promotion back to the NPFL.

‎“We urge the players and the technical crew to justify the confidence reposed in them by delivering improved and consistent performances throughout the season,” he said.
