Bayelsa PDP adopts Tinubu as Rainbow Coalition’s presidential candidate

    Published on

‎The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa has adopted President Bola Tinubu as the Rainbow Coalition’s candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

‎The coalition, led by the PDP in the state, also unveiled strategies to mobilise support for Tinubu and secure victory for PDP candidates contesting National and State Assembly seats.

‎The decisions were taken at the party’s expanded 100th State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting in Yenagoa on Thursday.

‎The Bayelsa PDP Chairman, Chief George Turnah, said the coalition would intensify grassroots mobilisation to secure electoral support for its preferred candidates.

‎Turnah also called on the Bayelsa State Government to account for public funds allegedly spent on the state’s 30th anniversary celebration.

‎He said the government should publish a detailed breakdown of the expenditure and identify the approved budgetary provisions authorising the spending.

‎The PDP chairman said the anniversary was a significant milestone but should not justify lavish expenditure amid economic hardship and inadequate public services.

‎He cited rising poverty, high transportation costs, unaffordable housing, poor healthcare facilities and unreliable public water supply as concerns requiring urgent attention.

‎Turnah also urged the Bayelsa House of Assembly to strengthen its oversight of public expenditure and ensure accountability in the management of state resources.

‎On healthcare, he questioned the impact of a reported four-million-dollar health grant and called for verifiable information on projects and services funded through it.

‎He further called for greater investment in education, affordable housing, mass transit and reliable public utilities to improve residents’ living conditions.

‎Turnah said the PDP would continue to demand transparency and advocate policies addressing poverty, unemployment and underdevelopment in the state.

‎He maintained that Bayelsa residents deserved accountable governance, improved public services and inclusive development.
