Atiku Says 2027 Presidential Bid Will Be His Final Attempt

    Published on

Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has disclosed that 2027 will be his last attempt at contesting for Nigeria’s presidency.

He made the submission during an interview on Wednesday with Arise News ahead of the 2027 elections.

He added that being the last attempt makes it more of a high-stakes contest for him.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain added that he represents both the past and future of Nigeria.

Justifying why he is still contesting the presidency, Atiku declared that the younger generation of leaders clamouring for power have not lived up to expectations, and he personally believes that they require experience and tutelage from the older generation.

Recently, Atiku declared that the state of governance in Nigeria has kept many older politicians active in national politics longer than expected.

He revealed this in an interview with SYMFONI TV.

The former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate said that Nigeria’s current situation compares with what it should look like under proper leadership.

He explained that if the country had been well managed over the years, many senior political figures would have stepped away from active politics to rest and allow younger leaders to take over.

According to him, the challenges in governance have made it difficult.

He added that their continued presence in politics is not driven by personal interest but by the need to push for better leadership, stronger systems, and respect for the country’s constitution.

He said, “Nigeria has suffered from years of poor governance, and that is why many of us are still active in politics longer than we planned.”
