    Army takes free medical outreach to community in Bayelsa, to mark Army Day

    The 16 Brigade of Nigerian Army, Yenagoa has taken its free medical outreach and other humanitarian services to Oruma community in Ogbia Local Government Area, of Bayelsa to mark this year’s army day celebration.

    A medical team comprising doctors, pharmacists, ophthalmologists and other medical professionals provided a full day service at Oruma community on Tuesday.

    Speaking at a brief opening ceremony, Brig. Gen. Sadisu Yakasai, the Commander 16 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, noted that the free medical care focuses on rural communities in Bayesa who lack access to health services.

    The Commander was represented by the Chief of Staff 16 Brigade, Col. Amed Balogun.

    According to him, the Nigerian Army belongs to all Nigerians, that the activities that are being carried out in Bayalsa to mark the day are being done Nationwide.

    He said that the Command remained committed to building mutual cordial relationships with host communities by providing humanitarian services to the people to mark her celebration.

    The Commander urged the people to support the Army in its effort to stamp out oil theft and prevent sabotage on oil installations and crude oil bearing pipelines within their communities.

    In a response, King David Amakri, the Paramount Ruler of Oruma community, who benefitted from the free medical outreach, applauded the Army for the gesture.

    He pledged the cooperation and support of the community to the Army in its operations to secure oil facilities and the coastal communities are safe.
    He said that the free medical outreach will go along way with the indegins of the community, who are happy with the gesture.

    Mr Gift Azibapu, a beneficiary commanded the Army for the free medical outreach, stating that the community is happy with it.

    He called for an expansion of the programme to enable poor communities to benefit from it, adding that Ogbia had remained very peaceful.
