On Sunday, the Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja, celebrated Eid-el Kabir with wounded-in-action soldiers at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna.

As part of the Sallah festivities, a variety of delicacies and drinks were provided to the soldiers. Lagbaja emphasized that Eid-el Kabir is a time to celebrate and share with those in need. He highlighted the importance of acknowledging and supporting the soldiers, especially since they could not be with their families during the celebration.

Lagbaja assured the soldiers that the Nigerian Army, along with the defence minister and the chief of defence staff, are committed to their welfare and will continue to support them in their recovery. He wished them a speedy recovery and reaffirmed his dedication to their well-being.

Wounded soldier Garba Bono expressed gratitude for the army chief’s visit, stating, “The COAS has been there for us and still with us, this alone is a cause to be happy. The hospital also is doing its best for us. I never thought I could walk again in my life when I was brought to the hospital. Now I can walk. I thank God and the hospital for caring for us.”

Another soldier, Solomon Olaniyi, thanked Lagbaja for his continued support and reassured the soldiers of their importance to the Army. “We are happy and still have the assurance that the Army will never neglect us. We are grateful for COAS remembering us, this gives us joy that the Army is with us and we still belong to society,” he said.

The acting chief medical director of the hospital, Stephen Onuchukwu, reported that the soldiers are receiving excellent care. He praised Lagbaja’s leadership, noting that his focus on personnel welfare and effective administration has significantly benefited the wounded soldiers. Onuchukwu emphasized that all necessary resources and leadership are in place to ensure the soldiers receive the best possible care.
