The Director General of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), Olalekan Fadolapo, has initiated action against the Director of Regulations within the organization for approving the controversial ‘All Eyes on Judiciary’ billboard advertisement in Abuja.
According to reports, Fadolapo has queried the Director of Regulations for his role in approving the billboard advertisement. The advertisement has been deemed by Fadolapo as a form of blackmail against the Nigerian Judiciary and the Honorable Justices of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal. Fadolapo further expressed concerns that the advert could potentially incite public unrest and disrupt public peace.
The ‘All Eyes on Judiciary’ billboard, sponsored by Diaspora’s For Good Governance, has surfaced at a time of heightened anticipation as Nigerians await the verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal. The billboard’s message has led to speculations and discussions regarding the impartiality and fairness of the judicial process.
The situation underscores the delicate nature of public messaging, especially in a politically charged environment. ARCON’s response highlights the need for responsible and ethical advertising practices to ensure that public discourse remains respectful, fair, and conducive to maintaining social harmony.
