There is growing anticipation and quiet anxiety across Anambra State as residents, political stakeholders, and civil servants await Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s expected announcement of new commissioners for his second term.

Barring any last-minute change of plans, sources say a majority of the commissioners who served in the governor’s first term are likely to be dropped as the administration moves to constitute a new State Executive Council to drive governance in the new tenure.

The development has fuelled speculation within political and administrative circles, especially following recent changes in some government offices where several appointees were relieved of their duties and new appointments made.

So far, only the Governor’s Press Secretary has been retained from the old order and elevated to Chief Press Secretary, a move seen by observers as part of a wider reorganisation of the government’s communication and administrative structure ahead of the cabinet formation.

The new cabinet is coming at a time when the Soludo administration’s first term is being assessed.

The governor, who anchored his government on the “Solution Agenda,” recorded interventions across key sectors during his first term.
These include extensive road construction and rehabilitation aimed at improving connectivity and easing the movement of people and goods.

His administration also strengthened local security structures and collaborated with community-based security outfits to address security concerns in parts of the state.

In education and health, the government recruited teachers and health workers and upgraded public school infrastructure, while several primary healthcare centres were rehabilitated to improve access to basic medical services.

Economic reforms were also introduced to improve the ease of doing business, with efforts directed at supporting small and medium-scale enterprises and attracting investment into the state.

Despite these achievements, some critics have cited challenges in policy implementation and perceived inconsistencies across ministries, which observers say may have informed the decision to bring in fresh hands as commissioners.

Political watchers say the incoming State Executive Council is expected to reflect the governor’s priorities for his second term, particularly in consolidating ongoing projects and accelerating development initiatives.

There is also speculation that the new cabinet may feature a blend of experienced hands and fresh appointees drawn from different sectors to strengthen governance delivery.

Discussions have intensified across the state as stakeholders await the formal announcement, which is expected to signal a new phase in the Soludo administration.

Indications suggest the announcement may be made before the weekend.
