Alleged banditry links: NANS demands probe, Mattawale’s sack

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called for the immediate removal of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mattawale, following allegations linking him to bandit activities in the country.

In a statement issued by the Senate President of NANS Headquarters, Sen. Usman Adamu Nagwaza, the student body described the allegations as a serious breach of public trust that raises concerns about the minister’s integrity and suitability for office.

Nagwaza said the claims were particularly disturbing given Mattawale’s role in national security, arguing that any association with bandits undermines the government’s efforts to combat insecurity.

NANS demanded the minister’s removal pending investigation, insisting that such a step is necessary to ensure a fair and interference-free probe.

The association warned that the allegations, if left unaddressed, could embolden criminal elements and further displace innocent Nigerians.

It issued a one-week ultimatum to the federal government, threatening nationwide student protests and the blockade of major highways if action is not taken.

NANS urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to act swiftly, stressing that Nigerians will not tolerate corruption or complicity with criminal groups.

The association also called for transparency and accountability in handling the allegations, vowing to continue holding public officials accountable and insisting that the rule of law must prevail.
