Alisson Becker is poised to make his comeback from injury for Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to manager Arne Slot. The Brazilian goalkeeper has been sidelined for the last two games, with Caoimhin Kelleher stepping in as his replacement.
In his pre-match press conference on Friday, Slot shared that Alisson participated in part of a training session and is expected to be fully involved in the session on Friday. “He trained yesterday as part of our session with the group, so we’re expecting him to do the whole session today,” Slot said. “We think he is available, but of course, we have to train today.”
Slot expressed his satisfaction with Alisson’s return but acknowledged Kelleher’s strong performances during Alisson’s absence. “Caoimhin did really well in the two games he was in goal for us,” he noted, emphasizing the depth of options available to him.
Liverpool currently sits second in the Premier League, trailing champions Manchester City by just one point after securing four wins from their opening five matches. Slot, who has recently taken over from Jurgen Klopp, reflected on his start, describing it as “good, but not perfect,” following a disappointing home loss to Nottingham Forest.
He stated, “Every home game you lose is a disappointment, especially if it’s not against a team that’s competing for a top-four position, although you never know what Nottingham Forest are going to do this season.”
Slot also mentioned that the team’s style of play remains largely consistent with Klopp’s approach, given that many players from the previous regime are still part of the squad.
