Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, has offered clarification regarding his recent interaction with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, shedding light on why he did not shake hands with the governor during a previous encounter.

In a video that circulated last month, Musa was seen in the company of the Kano governor and some government officials at the State House in Kano. While Musa exchanged handshakes with the deputy governor, he opted to bow respectfully before the governor.

However, this video sparked debates on social media, with some users interpreting Musa’s action as a snub towards the governor.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Musa explained that his gesture was rooted in cultural respect, expressing surprise at the misinterpretation of his actions.

He stated, “It has come to my attention that a moment captured almost a month ago has unexpectedly garnered attention on social media. It’s disheartening to see a simple act of cultural respect blown out of proportion.”

Musa clarified that in Northern culture, gestures such as kneeling and shaking hands symbolize the highest form of respect. He further elaborated that his intention was to honor the deputy governor with this gesture. However, when greeting the governor, Musa chose to bow, aligning with a tradition deeply ingrained in Northern culture.

Expressing disappointment at the diversion of focus from more pressing national issues, Musa urged for a collective effort towards addressing societal challenges rather than getting entangled in needless distractions.

He concluded by calling for unity and collaboration in tackling pertinent issues and working towards a brighter future for all.

Musa’s statement serves to dispel misconceptions surrounding his actions, reaffirming his commitment to cultural values while advocating for a focus on meaningful societal progress.
