Chairman of Agatu Local Government Council, Hon. James Melvin Ejeh, has condemned the killing of four people in Egwuma and Ogbai communities by suspected Fulani terrorists.

The victims, including a mother, her son, and two others, were murdered on Wednesday in what the chairman described as a barbaric and senseless attack on peaceful citizens.

This is an unprovoked attack on our people. It’s senseless and barbaric,” Hon. Ejeh said.

“How could anyone attack and kill a mother and her son who were simply working on their farm?”

While commending the swift response of security operatives, he noted that the incident happened while personnel were on patrol in other villages.

According to him, the prompt intervention of Operation Whirl Stroke, the Nigeria Police Force, the Civil Defence Corps, and Operation Anyam Nyor prevented further casualties.

Hon. Ejeh also praised Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia for his commitment to tackling insecurity in the state, describing his leadership as instrumental in supporting Agatu during recurring attacks.

The council chairman noted the vulnerability of Agatu due to its swampy terrain and poor road network, and urged youths of the council to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and proactive in sharing intelligence with security agencies.

He further expressed heartfelt condolences to the affected families and communities, assuring them of the council’s resolve to work with security forces, traditional leaders, and the state government to prevent a recurrence.

“This is a tragic loss for all of us, and we stand together in grief and solidarity,” he said
