AFCON W’Qualifiers: Falcons Eye Benin, Cameroon Face Algeria test

    Published on

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will lock horns with the She-Cheetahs of Benin Republic in October as the final round of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers takes center stage.

The reigning champions and record 10-time winners will begin away before hosting the return leg, both ties squeezed into CAF’s October 20–28 window.

For Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses, the road is rockier. Having stumbled in recent years, they now face Algeria’s Lady Fennecs—one of the fastest-rising sides on the continent. Algeria impressed at the last WAFCON, reaching the quarter-finals after holding Nigeria to a draw.

Benin arrived with momentum, having dispatched Sierra Leone 5-2 on aggregate. Senegal too will need to summon grit against Côte d’Ivoire after a heart-breaking penalty shootout exit against South Africa.

In total, 11 teams will join hosts Morocco for the March 2026 tournament, which doubles as Africa’s qualifying gateway to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
