Abia NLC on High Alert Over Ajaero’s Police Invitation, Threatens Strike

The Abia State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has placed its members on high alert, warning of an imminent industrial action if the Police arrest NLC National President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, or any other labour leader. The directive was issued in a circular signed by State NLC Chairman, Comrade Okoro Ogbonnaya, and Secretary, Emma Alozie, and made public in Umuahia.

This development follows the recent police invitation of Ajaero for questioning over alleged terrorism financing and treason, actions which have sparked widespread public outrage and global condemnation. The NLC views the police’s move as an attempt to intimidate labour leaders and stifle dissent.

The circular emphasized that if Ajaero or any labour leader is arrested, an indefinite strike will commence at midnight on the same day without further notice. The Abia NLC has instructed all industrial unions in both public and private sectors to begin mobilizing their members for total compliance with the impending strike.

The statement also called on the State Government, security agencies, civil liberty organizations, and the general public to take note of the situation, signaling the NLC’s readiness to escalate the matter if necessary.
