Seven members of the Imo State Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have announced their resignations from their positions. They have also withdrawn their memberships from the party. The announcement was made at a press conference held in Owerri, the state capital.

Collins Opurozor, who served as the state publicity secretary of the party, stated that the PDP candidate for the November 11 governorship election in the state, Samuel Anyanwu, is not qualified to govern. Opurozor, along with the secretary of the party Ray Emeana, the youth leader Greg Nwadike, the deputy state chairman Martin Ejiogu, the state woman leader Maria Mbakwe, Josiah Eze (State Treasurer), and Chibuisi Obido (State Vice Chairman, Orlu Zone), all resigned from their positions and left the party.

While they did not disclose which party they would join, they indicated that their decision would be revealed in the coming days.

Opurozor expressed disappointment with the National Secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, accusing him of causing division and conflicts within the party. He alleged that Anyanwu had used his position to fight against the Working Committee and intimidate members.

Opurozor further claimed that they had faced assassination attempts due to false accusations made by Anyanwu regarding misappropriation of party funds. He also accused Anyanwu of orchestrating the theft of materials for last year’s party congresses, causing controversies and draining party resources.

According to Opurozor, Anyanwu later confessed to deceiving the LGA Youth Leaders about financial mismanagement in the party during a meeting at his residence.

The members of the State Working Committee expressed their dismay over the situation, describing the Imo PDP as irreparably damaged under Anyanwu’s leadership.

As of now, the Imo State Police Command has not commented on the incident.
