DSS Successfully Apprehends Suspended CBN Governor Emefiele on Terrorism Charges

    Published on

In a significant development, the Department of State Services (DSS) has successfully apprehended Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). This action was taken shortly after President Bola Tinubu suspended Emefiele, following mounting criticism of his alleged mismanagement of the nation’s monetary policies.

President Tinubu’s decision to suspend Emefiele did not come as a surprise, as concerns over his performance and the need for reforms in the financial sector had been raised. The suspension was announced through a statement that cited an ongoing investigation into Emefiele’s office and the planned reforms in the economy’s financial sector. The suspension took immediate effect, according to Willie Bassey, the Director of Information at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Following the suspension, the DSS wasted no time in arresting Emefiele, taking him into custody for questioning. It should be noted that the DSS had previously made unsuccessful attempts to arrest him before President Tinubu assumed office. Emefiele faces accusations of alleged involvement in aiding and abetting acts of terrorism.

This arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation and highlights the determination of the authorities to address any concerns regarding national security. Further updates on the matter are expected as the investigation progresses.
