Senator representing Borno South Senatorial District, Mohammed Ali Ndume has asked the military to prioritize the rescue of abducted schoolchildren from Lassa and Mussa, and passengers kidnapped along the Biu-Buratai-Buni Yadi road.
Ndume made the call midweek during a visit to the new Theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, at Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.
The closed-door meeting focused on security in Borno and the North-East, with the safe return of the abductees topping the agenda.
Over 40 pupils were abducted in Mussa and over 30 students in Lassa weeks later, while passengers including a toddler were kidnapped in a road ambush since February 2026, with no word on their whereabouts.
Speaking after the meeting, Ndume commended the military for sustained efforts and urged troops to intensify operations for safe recovery.
”The Army must be commended. Alhamdulillah, the security situation is improving. Most of what we discussed will not be disclosed because they are security matters, but certainly, the safe release of the Lassa and Mussa schoolchildren and the Biu travellers is my priority for now,” he said.
The former Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, also raised the strategic importance of Gombe-Biu and Damboa-Maiduguri roads, saying he has consistently pushed for their construction because of security, commerce and movement.
He welcomed the recent salary increase for military personnel approved by President Bola Tinubu, describing it as key to improving welfare and morale.
Earlier, Major General Ajose described Ndume as a friend of the military, noting the visit provided opportunity to discuss security issues in the North-East.
He thanked Ndume for prioritizing security and welfare of his constituents and assured that the military would build on its successes against insecurity.
