‎The Federal Government has upgraded the Riyom General Hospital to a National Trauma Centre, and deployed 15 ambulances to Plateau State.

‎

‎The hospital will operate as an outpost of the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).

‎

‎The 15 ambulances comprise five conventional emergency ambulance buses and 10 tricycle ambulances for rural and hard-to-reach communities

‎

‎Ot was launched under the National Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (NEMSAS).

‎

‎Governor Caleb Mutfwang, represented by Deputy Gov Josephine Piyo, described it as a major investment in saving lives and said Plateau had earlier procured five ambulances under PLASEMSAS.

‎

‎Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, Kachollom Daju, who represented Health Minister Muhammad Patel, announced the upgrade and commended Plateau for ceding the facility.

‎

‎The principle behind the project: “distance should not determine whether a life is saved” especially for maternal emergencies, road crashes and trauma cases.
