‎Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the June 20, 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, Dr Oluwole Oluyede, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently reform Nigeria’s electoral system ahead of the 2027 general elections.

‎Oluyede, who submitted a memorandum containing documentary evidence on the conduct of the Ekiti poll to the President on Monday, said the move was to contribute to the strengthening of Nigeria’s democracy and electoral institutions.

‎The former governorship candidate also announced that he has withdrawn his legal challenge over the outcome of the election.

‎In the memorandum titled, ‘Report on the conduct of the June 20, 2026 Ekiti State governorship election: Observations, documentary evidence and recommendations for strengthening Nigeria’s democracy,’ he presented his observations on the election.

‎The report included what he described as relevant documentary evidence, such as certified copies of Independent National Electoral Commission Forms EC8A and EC8B and BVAS accreditation records.

‎Oluyede urged the President to ensure that the issues raised in the report are independently examined, saying this should be considered as part of broader efforts to improve the credibility, transparency and integrity of future elections in Nigeria.

‎He noted that his decision to write directly to Tinubu was informed by his longstanding respect for the President and belief in his commitment to democratic governance and national development.

‎Recalling his political association with the number one citizen, Oluyede said he contested the 2018 All Progressives Congress, APC governorship primary in Ekiti before supporting the eventual winner, former Governor Kayode Fayemi.

‎He also disclosed that he was among the pioneer members of the South West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA), a political movement that mobilised support for Tinubu’s presidential ambition ahead of the 2023 general elections.

‎According to him, his support for Tinubu has remained consistent despite pursuing his own governorship ambition under a different political platform.

‎He stressed that the memorandum was not intended as a political protest but as a patriotic contribution towards strengthening Nigeria’s electoral process.
