‎The national leadership of the Labour Party (LP), on Tuesday, held an interactive session with its Vice Presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, Hajja Bintu Konto, at the National Secretariat in Abuja where it reaffirmed confidence in the presidential ticket of Dr. Chibuzo Sunday Okereke and his running mate.

‎National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, expressed satisfaction with the choice of Konto as the vice presidential candidate. .

‎She described the nomination as a reflection of the party’s commitment to equity, inclusion and social justice.

‎According to Usman, the choice aligns with the party’s philosophy of ‘Mama, Papa, Pikin,’ which embodies the humane and inclusive ideals of the Labour Party.

‎She noted that by presenting a woman a  candidate, Labour Party stands out as vice presidential candidate, the only major political party in the 2027 race to accord women such a strategic place on its presidential ticket.

‎The national chairman said Konto’s credentials, professional accomplishments and humanitarian experience would enrich governance when she and Okereke assume office in 2027.

‎Usman also commended the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, describing him as the poster child of the Labour Party and a shining example of democratic governance.

‎She particularly praised the recently enacted social welfare law in Abia for senior citizens, describing it as a practical demonstration of people-oriented governance.

‎The national chairman urged Nigerians to vote for the Labour Party to experience similar dividends of democracy, saying the transformation in Abia is proof of what LP governments can deliver.

‎Okereke, the Party’s Presidential Candidate, said he was delighted to be paired with Konto, whom he described as humble, dependable and highly experienced.

‎He said neglecting women in governance is like attempting to clap with one hand, given their contribution to Nigeria’s population and development.

‎The presidential candidate paid tribute to Konto’s record as a development advocate and public health expert, adding that his presidency would only be complete with her as Vice President.

‎In her remarks, Konto thanked the party leadership for the confidence reposed in her, describing Senator Usman as a woman with a golden heart committed to justice and national service.

‎Konto recalled her humanitarian work during the early days of the Boko Haram insurgency in Northern Nigeria, noting that despite losing her husband to the conflict, she continued to provide relief to victims.

‎She pledged to deploy her field experience to address security challenges and advance people-centred policies if elected, saying she joined the Labour Party because it remains the only platform with a clear vision and practical roadmap to rebuild the nation.

‎The session, according to the party, underscored the unity and resolve within LP leadership to offer Nigerians competent and transformational leadership in 2027.
