    Fear grips Plateau residents as terrorists attack NIPPS

    ‎ Residents of Jos, the Plateau State capital, were thrown into panic in the early hours of Tuesday, following the heavy attack by suspected terrorists on Nigeria’s foremost policy institution, the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Headquarters, which left, at least, three security personnel dead.
    ‎NIPSS has confirmed the attack, but assured that the situation has been brought under control.
    ‎In a statement signed by the Head, Public Affairs Department, Dr Osime Samuel, the institute said there is currently no threat to participants, staff, residents and facilities, adding that normal activities are continuing as scheduled.
    ‎According to the statement, security personnel and relevant security agencies responded swiftly to contain the situation.
    ‎“The situation was promptly brought under control through the swift response of security personnel and relevant security agencies.
    ‎“There is currently no threat to the safety of participants, staff, residents or facilities of the Institute, and normal activities are continuing as scheduled,” the statement read.
    ‎NIPSS said security agencies have commenced investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and cautioned against speculation.

    ‎“The Institute is therefore unable to confirm details currently circulating on social media and other unofficial platforms,” it stated.
    ‎The institute added that it is working closely with the appropriate authorities and would provide verified information as soon as it becomes available.

    ‎The management also reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and security of members of the Institute community and commended the professionalism of security personnel involved in the response.
    ‎“Further updates, according to the statement, would be communicated in due course,” the statement added.
    ‎ Meanwhile, the Plateau State Police Command has expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident.
    ‎In a terse statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Plateau State Command, Jos, SP Alfred Alabo, the Command, however, urged members of the public to remain calm, and go about their lawful businesses.
    ‎”The Plateau State Police Command, on a very sad note, wishes to confirm the incident that occurred in the early hours of today, 16th June 2026, involving security personnel on duty at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Kuru.
    ‎”Regrettably, three security personnel lost their lives during the incident.
    ‎”Security reinforcements have been deployed and patrols have been intensified around the general area by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, psc (++), FCAI, MSPSP. The situation is under control and normal activities have resumed.
    ‎”Investigation is ongoing. the Command urges members of the public to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses.
    ‎”Further updates will be communicated in due course,” the Command said.
