2027: Obi, Kwankwaso May Quit NDC After Election If Expectations Fail, says Ahmad

Former presidential aide and All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain, Bashir Ahmad, has said Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso could leave the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, after the 2027 elections if their political expectations are not met.
Ahmad made the assertion in a post on his verified X handle while commenting on the political dynamics within the NDC ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to him, Obi and Kwankwaso view the NDC primarily as a platform for contesting the 2027 presidential election, a factor he believes could create future tensions within the party.
The former presidential aide argued that the political objectives of the duo may not align with the long-term vision of the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson.
“If Obi and Kwankwaso’s expectations are not realised within the party, they will definitely move on to another platform ahead of 2031 for the same reason,” Ahmad wrote.
He added that Dickson appears to be pursuing a broader political project aimed at positioning himself and the party for future national relevance.
“From what I understand, Dickson is pursuing a long-term political project rather than a short-term electoral arrangement. His focus is to build a formidable political platform that could position him strongly for the presidency in 2031 or thereabouts,” he stated.
Ahmad’s comments come amid ongoing discussions over the future direction of the NDC following the emergence of Obi as the party’s presidential flag bearer and Kwankwaso as his running mate for the 2027 election.
The remarks also follow recent statements by Dickson, who insisted that the NDC was not indebted to Obi or any other political figure for joining the party. Dickson maintained that the party had provided a platform for their ambitions rather than the other way around.
