Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure a second term, insisting no opposition figure currently has the political strength to unseat him in 2027.
Speaking during a televised interview, Fayose said despite criticism of the administration and concerns over insecurity, Tinubu remains the country’s most formidable political force.p
The former governor dismissed calls from some quarters for Tinubu to resign, noting that the President still has ample time in his current mandate to address national challenges and implement his agenda.
According to Fayose, much of the criticism is driven by supporters of opposition figures, particularly former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, who are already positioning for the next electoral cycle.
He maintained that if the presidential election were conducted repeatedly, Tinubu would still emerge victorious.
“Tinubu would still emerge victorious if the election is conducted 10 times,” Fayose said, citing the President’s political experience, resilience, and ability to build alliances across the country.
The former governor recalled Tinubu’s 2023 victory, arguing that the President won despite not enjoying the full backing of then-President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said that achievement demonstrated Tinubu’s capacity to navigate complex political terrain and overcome obstacles.
Fayose further suggested that an incumbent president seeking re-election naturally enjoys strategic advantages and “would not easily surrender political ground to challenges.
His remarks come amid growing discussions over the shape of the opposition ahead of 2027, with various political actors weighing potential alliances and strategies to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
